Advancing nursing competence in chronic vision care through evidence, simulation and European collaboration.
NURSE-LABS develops and validates a European competence-based vocational training model for nurses supporting people with chronic vision conditions, including glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
Competence-based training
NURSE-LABS connects ophthalmology, nursing education and health literacy into a structured model for chronic vision counselling and medication adherence support.
NURSE-LABS addresses a European training gap in chronic vision counselling and adherence support. The project brings together clinical, nursing, academic, health literacy and digital education expertise to develop a validated European Competence Framework, an EQF-aligned curriculum and a simulation-based digital learning ecosystem. The model is designed to strengthen measurable counselling competences, support continuing professional development and provide a scalable approach for vocational nursing education across Europe.

Validate the competence framework through structured transnational expert consensus.
Translate validated competences into a modular, outcome-based curriculum aligned with European qualification principles.
Operationalise the curriculum through an LMS-based learning ecosystem with interactive clinical simulations and competence tracking.
Pilot the training in real educational and professional settings and measure competence development through pre- and post-assessment.
Translate project evidence into CPD pathways, policy recommendations, long-term digital access and a European Community of Practice.
Digital simulation
The learning ecosystem will support scenario-based practice, structured assessment and competence tracking for nurses working with chronic vision conditions.
